Durgapur steel plant was set up in the late fifties with an initial production capacity of 1 MPTA (million ton per annum) crude steel which was progressively increased to 1.8 MTPA during the last modernization in nineties with the prime objective of achieving higher level of production, improvement in productivity and quality, conservation of energy, reduction in cost of production & minimization of environmental pollution.
